A Visit To St. George With A Birthday To Celebrate

Last weekend we made the journey to St. George for Cooper's first birthday.  It was a tough drive, with Wyatt for some reason, it always is.  But once we got there, we all had a great time.
Right when we arrived we went to the Main Street park for Cooper's birthday party.  Cooper is enjoying the water more than Wyatt, he's more interested in something else.

Cooper loves Wyatt's shirt, it has a skunk on it.

Everybody loved the parks carousel, including the Daddys.

Kim's friend made this awesome birthday cake for Cooper.

Noah loved to run through the water fountain.

Cooper would have run too, if he could.  He just crawled around and got excited once the water started spraying.  He's lucky he didn't take one squirt right in the eye.

The boys just picking at the cake, neither was really interested...Who are these kids?  No cake?

Hanging out by Grandma's pool the next day.  We had to find a way to keep cool, we're not used to that kind of heat.

Later that night at the park having a BBQ, go Grandpa, man those burgers.

Wyatt enjoyed walking in the small creek running through the park, first with Nana...

then with Dada.

Matt and Noah having a sword fight while waiting for the burgers.

Later the boys decided to play catch.

Wyatt loving Nana's hot tub, naked, just the way he likes it.

Before we headed out on Monday we wanted to wear Wyatt out so he would sleep some of the way home.  We went to Jumping Jacks, the land of inflatable jumpers.  Here are Kim and Cooper flying down a slide.

Wyatt and Kevin hauling down a slide too, they were a blur.

Wyatt wanting to go back up the slide, that's not how it works buddy.

It was a fun, short trip.  Wyatt slept for a few hours on the way home, which was heaven.  Thanks for the fun time Nana and Pop Pop.

Bakin' and Freakin'

I baked a pie from scratch for the first time last Sunday, yum cherry...I think there will be more pies in our future.

I took Wyatt over to Sea World last week to see the new turtle exhibit.  He really liked the turtles, but he kept making a sound for a frog.  It's a little hard to explain that turtles don't make sounds..it's ok buddy, they kind of look like frogs.

Checking out the dolphins and loving them.

We also went to the Cique show, we were pretty close and I didn't realize how much these freaky guys scared Wyatt, one came up close to us and he started shaking.  I just clapped and we sang a long with the songs and he quickly realized these were friendly "freakys".

Speaking of freaking, here he is putting on a dance show, he loves to get his groove on.

To top off the week we went downtown to see all the characters attending ComiCon.  It was packed.  We all enjoyed the scenery.

Texas Trip

We went to Texas last weekend to spend some time with Kevin's family and to see Mimi and Tia's new house.  They were prepared for us with the baby pool all filled up when we got there.  It was HOT and humid, we needed it!
Wyatt and his cousin Caden enjoying the pool.

Wyatt playing with the trucks Tia bought.

Exploring their backyard..."wow I'm in a jungle and for some reason a priest is here too!"

Caden just relaxing and trying to beat the heat, Wyatt should have taken a lesson from the native and took a few more breaks than he did, by the end of the day he was exhausted.
Kevin enjoying his favorite, Tex-Mex.

This is so Caden and Wyatt, Caden is just chill, and Wyatt is scrambling to break free.

Thank goodness Brian and Laura have a pool, we all needed it.

Another day in the baby pool, Kevin couldn't resist.

For some reason both boys loved this chair and they would fight over it, looks like Wyatt won this round.

Jolly family reunion, visiting Kevin's cousins and their kids.

We were able to meet up with some of Kevin's high school friends at one of our favorites Chuy's.  Do you see the size of that Tres Leches?  Man that was one serving, nuts, but it was good.

This is pathetic, but here we are eating again.  I had to have fried chicken while we were there.  Honestly there is nothing like Texas fried chicken and besides here in San Diego you can't even get KFC without driving 20 miles.  Thank you Bubba's.

...later that night, back to mexican.  Yikes, I'm surprised we didn't gain more weight.

Ok ready to leave, Wyatt was excited to go once he saw the little Thomas the Train suitcase Mimi and Tia got for him.

4th Of July Weekend

We started off our weekend by meeting our friends the Balsamos, Mike Seal, and Lyssa for dinner on Friday night at Jimmy Carter's Mexican cafe near our house (I thought he was a peanut farmer prior to being President?).

On Saturday morning we went to the church pancake breakfast.  That funny face Wyatt is making is his "sniffing" face, he's trying to tell me he wants to sniff the clementine.  He's awesome.

We all went on a scavenger hunt around the parking lot.  Can you believe the little toddlers actually won, they beat the young men, young women, and adult couples.  If you need a 2 year old to find random things in the bushes, they can get it done!  I had three toddlers with me and I sent them each out looking in different bushes for different things and we came back with all the items first.  Wyatt found the bonus item of the dandelion, way to go!
After Wyatt's nap on Saturday we drove up to Laguna Beach to spend the night with our friends the Thimons, the Gibbons were also in town for the weekend.  Here we are hanging out on the balcony blowing bubbles.  What a view huh?

In the evening their community had a 4th of July party with a BBQ and a band playing at the park near their house.   We're getting ready to party.

The boys, getting ready for the band.

Josh hanging out with Wyatt.

Here is a video of Wyatt dancing along with the music.

We had fun that night then got up the next day to go to the beach.  It was pretty packed down there, but we had a blast.  The guys headed down earlier to stake our spot on the beach.  As you can tell from this video they really wore themselves out getting everything set up.  Clowns.

The Thimons family.

The boys taking a much needed break after setting up all the beach equipment for 4 kids and 6 adults.

I got my butt kicked on the paddle board, my instincts took over and I thought I could surf the board back into the beach, bad idea, I got rocked by the waves.  I'm still recovering from a bruised arm and tender rib cage, ouch, lesson learned...the paddle board is not a surfboard.

We decided to go back to Old Town for the 4th this year.  We have had so much fun there in the past and this year was no exception.  We met up with a few friends of ours at the Mormon Battalion then headed over to a little restaurant for lunch.  Just a quick update on how much Wyatt has changed here is a picture from last 4th at the same restaurant.  He was a chunk, check out that double chin!
This year...wow he really is growing up fast, he already has a goatee!
Eating with the crew.

Hanging out listening to music, watching the sack races and square dancers.

Wyatt decided to climb a tree with the other boys.

We took a horse drawn carriage ride.

We stopped by the bay on our way home.  We went down here to take this photo because it was on this spot 53 years ago to the day that Pop Pop arrived from Texas on a bus and started boot camp.  He had more fun on this July 4th!

And finally we ended the weekend with a walk through Balboa Park.  What a fun packed holiday.
