After grabbing some muffins at tasty local bakery, we headed out of Sebastopol and up the 101, making our way to the Redwoods and the Avenue of the Giants. The whole drive was gorgeous as we made our way well into Northern California. We drove thru several little towns and then literally drove THRU a very big tree, the famous 315 foot tall Chandelier tree in Leggett (see the pics and video below).
Just a little further north of that we arrived at the Avenue of the Giants, the 32 mile two lane road that takes one thru the heart of the redwoods, with the Eel River snaking alongside. This drive is so spectacular that we spent as much time as we could before heading up to Ferndale.
We had chosen to stay in this little town because of its proximity to the redwoods and to stay at the Gingerbread Mansion, a great little B&B that we had seen online. We had booked the Italian-inspired Veneto room which was great. We drove 10 min over to the beach which was empty and caught a beautiful sunset, prior to eating some pizza at the local pizza joint, and then heading back to the room where Kelly (and Wyatt) had a relaxing bath in the raised tub. Even with all the other amazing places we saw on this trip, I believe we both agree that this was our favorite day of the vacation.
Looks like you two really got to see some beautiful scenery along coast and to the Redwood Forest.
