Summertime Fun

I've been slacking on keeping updated with the blog, so here is a big catch up post with what we've been doing the past few weeks.

Kevin caught a little video of Luke smiling.

Wyatt's favorite friend, Benjamin, came over one day for a play date.  Luke was able to get in the mix, both boys tried to upstage each other trying to entertain him.

It was such a warm day, we took them out to play in the pool for a little bit.  They took turns spraying each other with the dragon, man they loved it.
On Memorial Day we went down to Old Town and stopped by the Mormon Battalion.  It was the first time Kevin has been there, we all had a great time.

Crossing the plains...

and panning for gold, what a day!

My family came out to visit for Luke's baby blessing.  When they first arrived my dad sat down with Luke and he immediately smiled, that is rare for Luke.  My dad continued to entertain him for the weekend, Luke must like funny faces, he loves his Papa, ha ha.

Kim and Cooper on Elmo's Flying Fish at Sea World, Wyatt backed out at the last minute.

Cooper and Wyatt playing in the tunnels.

Sticking our hands in FREEZING water to grab a starfish for the boys to touch, oh the sacrifices moms make for their kids.

Seriously, Kim and I did not plan our outfits.

Cooper was worn out, he fell asleep with a churro in his hand, hilarious.

Wyatt checking out the penguins.

I'm not sure what their staring at here, hopefully it's not dog poop.  I love how kids hangout, seriously how do they sit like that?

Picture time.  After church I made everyone get pictures before we all changed.  My dad gave a beautiful, spiritual, and loving blessing for Luke.  I was really touched.

Hanging out for some lunch.

Wyatt "helping" me in the kitchen.  He wanted to "fold" the towels, by that he means get them out of the drawers and unfold them and line them up on the kitchen floor.

Luke enjoying some outdoor time while Wyatt runs wild in the backyard.

This is a great story.  Every Friday morning is a big deal around our house because it is trash pickup day and every other Friday is a really special day because it's refuse day, where the guy rides on the back of the truck and has to jump off it to grab the yard clippings.  Wyatt likes to run outside and watch the guy close up.  He has gotten a high-five before, but this past Friday the guy gave him a sticker, he went nuts.  I think this was the most excited I've seen him in awhile.  I wish I had the camera out there, he was so proud.  The thing I think I like most about it is that, they recognize how much kids love their job and have actually had stickers made, wow, that is awesome.

Luke is very much like Wyatt was in that he does not like to be carried facing inward.  He loves to look around, so I haven't used the wrap too much because I don't feel comfortable having him face out when he can't hold his head up.  But now he has strong neck control and I've been putting him in facing out.  His new favorite position, I like to call it Buddhist hold.

Kelly took matters into her own hands regarding Wyatt's hair and his distaste for someone else touching his glorious mane.  The result I think is great, particularly the natural spike/feaux-hawk that came as a result.  The only downside, and I believe other parents can relate, is that sometimes a new haircut makes them seem like they are growing up literally before our eyes.

Just Hanging Around Town

Here we are at our neighborhood street festival getting ready to enjoy the parade.  We were able to meet up with a couple of groups of friends, the Neubergs on the left and the Petts on the right.

Wyatt and Mimi enjoying the petting zoo.

Kevin took Mimi, Tia, and Wyatt out to dinner at Casa De Pico for some mariachi music and delicious mexican food.

Mimi and Kevin at Old Mission Dam.

Pop Pop with the boys.  Luke is getting so chunky, I love it.  We just bought a scale and weighed him yesterday, he weighed 13 lbs. 15oz. Wow!  Wyatt was up to 32 lbs. 5 oz.  They are getting so big.

The boys fishing at Santee Lakes last week.  Unfortunately they were not biting.

Work with me fish, work with me!

Luke and I joined them later in the day.

I had too much to carry one day up the stairs so I loaded Luke in the laundry basket to haul him up with the clean clothes.  But I love this picture because at 7 weeks it shows how much he's grown, I think next week he's not going to fit in the same basket!

Yesterday we did our first family hike almost half way up Cowles Mountain, what a beautiful day.  It showed me how out of shape I am!

Last night we went over to our friends the Balsamos, Luke got all dressed up in his jeans and sneakers.

The boys enjoying some pizza.

Me and my guys.

The guys, I love Michael's insanely bright smile, man that kid should be on a toothpaste commercial.  We joked that his smile looks photoshopped.  Hilarious.

Some backyard time from when Mimi and Tia were here.

Luke enjoying some playtime with his snail.

Mimi and Wyatt having a nice game of soccer in the backyard.

Potty Training

We decided to start potty training Wyatt this weekend. Saturday he had some accidents, Sunday the same, but today it is like he really got it! He went and sat on his potty all by himself a couple of times to go pee and went a couple of more times when I asked him to go take a potty break. We were accident free today! I'm so proud of our little man. Now it's just getting the number twos under control. :). The best part of today was him deciding not to wear any pants all day long. I loved seeing a little, cute naked bum running around.

Life During Luke's First Five Weeks

I can't believe Luke is already five weeks old.  Time really does fly, especially when the days and nights are blurred.  For the past couple of nights Luke and Wyatt have been going to bed at basically the same time, which is nice, it gives us a few hours of quiet before bedtime.  Luke still eats at least every couple of hours during the day, but for the past two nights he has gone four hour stretches.  Hopefully, as time goes on, the hours will lengthen.  I forget how tiring a newborn really is.
Luke's first bath at home.  He really seems to enjoy bathtime, he especially likes his hair washed, it puts him in a trance.

Wyatt taking a bath at the same age.

Wyatt has been doing a lot of searching for bugs in the yard, this snail was a huge find.

Kevin and Bella catching some sun while the boys napped.

I also had time with the help of Tia to set up a drip line for my garden, here is the before, things are getting a bit dry...more pictures to come of a lush drip-lined garden (hopefully).  By the way, my favorite this year are the peas, they are so delicious.

This little guy seems to have a scowl most of the day, even in his sleep.  Come on Luke are we that bad?

Bubble time...

More bubble time, with a death defying maneuver...

"What up, you like my bubbles?"

Poor Luke is a little unphotogenic right now.  Here he is trying too hard to focus on Kevin.

A similar face from Wyatt, more surprise, less scowl.

Lots of wrestling with Mimi.

Mimi and Tia hiking with Wyatt at the dam.

My friend Mike and his family came to San Diego to visit with us.  Here are Regan and Wyatt playing in the pit together, they got along ok.

Mike, Rocky, Regan, Wyatt, me, Monica, and Joel just enjoying some sun.

More bubbles.  Can you tell he loves them?  This was an extra special day because the sprinkler was on as well.

Every once in awhile Wyatt will ask to hold Luke, he seems to really enjoy him now and keeps saying that he is "funny".  Why, who knows?

It was warm enough to get the dragon pool going today.  Life with a newborn makes you really test your patience and your toddlers!  Wyatt was so patient today we started blowing up the pool at 10 this morning, honestly it did not get finished until 4!  I even had a air pump.  I just kept getting interrupted, then we took a break for lunch, then nap, then finally back to blowing it up.  Well it was worth it, because he loves it.

Luke likes his tummy time, especailly with the snail, Wyatt loved this toy too.

Tummy time with Wyatt at 5 weeks.

He is already getting too big, where did his tiny feet go?

Brother tummy time.

Four Wonderful Years

On Thursday Kevin and I celebrated our four year anniversary.  We went out to dinner at our old date night haunt Chilis, yay!  Then on Friday we had another great date night fondue dinner at The Melting Pot.  Two nights in a row, living the dream, thanks to Mimi and Tia for babysitting.

Four years ago, some pictures from our honeymoon.

Birthdays

It seems like with Luke being born in April now, I have a lot of family April birthdays to celebrate.  Luke's, Kevin's, Caden's, Andy's, Mom's and Kim's (technically hers is in May, but its so early on and close to Mom's, that I consider it April).  As I was thinking about birthdays this week, Mom's, Andy's, and Kim's, it made me think of funny stories about each of them.

Mom:  It's a classic story that Kim and I personally witnessed.  One afternoon in the grocery store we were trying to get some shopping done quickly, we decided to split up.  Mom was trying to tell Kim and I to go get something on an aisle over.  She kept saying "pop" "pop", over and over, frantically making weird hand expressions, so frantic in fact, she looked as though she was having a seizure.  Finally we figured out she wanted us to go get some popcorn, but couldn't remember the name and was trying to act it out.  Hilarious.

Andy:  I don't know why this story comes to mind, but it's the first of two I thought of.  We were moving and for some reason Andy and I were driving with my uncle Bernie in the Uhaul.  First off, we do not spend much time with this uncle and barely know him.  We stopped along the way at a truck stop to get gas and snacks, Bernie said we could get what we wanted.  I picked one candy bar.  Andy comes to the check out with a bag of beef jerky, soda, chips, and a candy bar.  Really Andy?  I was SO embarassed.  His response was "what, he said get what we wanted!"  Second story, my mom took us to the Maverick to get a treat, we could pick one thing.  Matt and I were down the candy aisle deciding carefully when Andy comes over with an icecream cone, he said "Do you guys want this? It's really good".  I said "what flavor is it"?  He said" ka-wee-wee" (kiwi).  We were like "no that looks disgusting".  He then said, "ya it is and now I can't get anything else, because Mom said just one thing."  Too bad uncle Bernie wasn't around.

Kim:  This is funny only because of how old Kim was at the time.  She must have been at least 12 because she was for sure already in middle school.  She came home from school one day in December and was crying very upset with my mom.  She said "Mom why didn't you tell me Santa wasn't real?"  What?  We could not believe she didn't know Santa wasn't real, I guess we forgot to tell her and assumed year after year that she knew until one day at school her and her friends were talking and Santa was brought up and Kim got really embarassed because they found out that she still believed in Santa.  Poor thing, according to her one of the many traumatizing moments created from being a child without a sibling closer in age to her.  (As I type this out, I realize it sounds more and more like a SNL skit).

Happy April (and May) birthdays!
